Der Arbeitskreis Mathematik trans- und interdisziplinär (kurz: AK MatriX) beschäftigt sich mit gesellschaftlichen und politischen Frage- und Problemstellungen, die aus der Anwendung mathematischer Methoden in sozialen Kontexten erwachsen. Wir folgen hierbei einer breiten Begriffsdefinition von »Mathematik«, von der bloßen Nutzung simpler Algorithmen und Datenbanken bis hin zu Deep Learning und neuronalen Netzen. Unser besonderer Fokus liegt auf vermehrten Automatisierungs- und Digitalisierungsbestrebungen sowohl in staatlichem Handeln als auch in der Privatwirtschaft (aktuelle Beispiele dafür sind etwa der AMS-Algorithmus oder Predictive-Policing-Verfahren).
Da nach unserem Verständnis eine rein abstrakt-mathematische Betrachtungsweise für gesellschaftliche Problemstellungen zu kurz greifen würde, legt der AK MatriX den Analyserahmen explizit disziplinenübergreifend an, um ein möglichst breites Spektrum an (multi-)disziplinären Perspektiven zu nutzen.
AK MatriX (Working Group on Trans- and Interdisciplinarity in Mathematics) studies societal and political issues arising from the application of mathematical methods in societal contexts. We follow a broad definition of »mathematics«, from the use of simple algorithms and databases to deep learning and neural nets. We focus especially on the increasing efforts towards automatisation and digitalisation in the public sector as well as in private business (current examples include the AMS algorithm and predictive policing).
Since we consider an abstract and purely mathematical approach to societal problems too limited, AK MatriX explicitly draws upon an interdisciplinary analytical framework in order to employ the broadest possible spectrum of (multi-)disciplinary perspectives.
